You must have a substantial need for housing.
Your living situation is likely poor—issues with heating, water, electricity, or structure. You may also not have enough bedrooms for everyone in your household. It could be in a dangerous or unhealthy area. It may not be suitable for a family member with a disability.
You must have the ability to pay.
Your income must be steady enough to cover a mortgage, utilities, and home upkeep. Your credit report and debts should be in good shape. You need to be at least 18 months out from any bankruptcy and have maintained good credit since then.
You must be willing to partner with Habitat.
Submit your application on time with all required information, like income history, pay stubs, and bank statements. Agree to complete sweat equity hours, attend homeownership workshops, allow home visits by Habitat staff or volunteers, and keep Habitat updated on any changes to your income or housing. Show you are ready for the responsibilities of owning and maintaining a home and yard. Be accepting of the location and design of Habitat homes. Know that new home construction may involve changes to plans and schedules.
You cannot currently own a home.
